If excessive hair fall is worrying you, try these quick and easy ways to rejuvenate your locks.
Losing strands of hair on a daily basis can sure leave us frustrated and worried, whether you’re a woman or a man. Trichologists say that losing 50 to 100 strands per day is completely normal, so if your hair fall is above that average, it’s high time you start figuring how to reduce it. We’d love to stop hair fall completely, but baby steps, people.
1. Drink more water
The most basic thing you should keep watch on is your daily liquid intake. You’ve probably heard time and time again that water is crucial in helping your bodily functions. Drink a glass every hour, when working, shopping or studying, before bedtime and immediately after you wake up.
2. Try an egg mask
Did you know that the eggs you eat every day can help restore your hair and increase hair growth? Eggs are a great source of sulphur and other minerals such as selenium, iodine, iron and zinc – which can be absorbed through consumption or application. To make an egg mask, take one egg white and mix it with a teaspoon of olive oil. Beat it until it has a paste-like texture and apply on your scalp. Rinse off with water and mild shampoo, and repeat this method weekly to reap its benefits.
3. Eat more protein
Sometimes it seems like hair loss is simply due to ageing. But you can hold off on the bald patches with your diet. Eat lean meats, dairy products, soybeans, fish and nuts religiously – they are all rich in proteins and amino acids. A deficiency of certain amino acids in your diet can be the main culprit for hair loss, so don’t ignore the side dishes on your plate.
4. Apply aloe vera
I remember when I was a little girl, my mum used to bring me out to our backyard and pluck some aloe vera stems. After slicing the stem in half, she would rub the pure aloe gel onto my head. She said that it was good for my hair and that I should do this often as I grow up. They say mums know best because aloe vera is indeed effective in rejuvenating your hair. Instead of an aloe vera-based product, go and get yourself the real plant in a pot. This way you have it in its purest form and can pluck it any time you feel like an aloe mask.
5. Rinse with neem leaves
Another easy way to revive your hair is with a quick age-old treatment using neem leaves. Boil the leaves in water until the water has reduced to half. Remove the leaves and rinse your hair with the solution once a week. By helping blood circulation and boosting your immune system, the plant oils can help with hair growth.
6. Relax
If your hair falls out as a result of stress from work, life or studies, there’s still hope for you – your situation is not permanent. Find the best way to de-stress yourself: practise meditation, go travelling, or explore the wilderness. Do whatever you need to do so that you find yourself at peace.
